Description

The king of Italian fine wines. The purity of this Barolo is just stunning. This garnet ruby coloured Barolo is fragrant and heavily perfumed, though not of oak, or candied fruit, but rather the perfumes of perfectly ripe Nebbiolo grapes at maximum expression. Raspberry jam, liquorice and spicy notes. Harmony, yet in a powerfully refined presentation. Red fruits dominate, the mid palate is very full, well-textured, deceptively deep. It is full-bodied, powerful and harmonious thanks to the sweetness of the tannins that characterise the finish, which is long and rewarding. A stunner, and one that should keep another 15-20 years if you’re so inclined to cellar it.

A landmark winery for the regions of Roero and Langa. In this vineyard, because the yield pervine must not exceed 2 kg, two thinnings are done – one at the beginning and one at the end of August. During hand harvesting, which is done by specialised vineyard workers, particular attention is given to the grape sorting. Maceration continues after fermentation for a total of 40-45 days. After, the wine is transferred to wood barrels of 2,000, 2,500, and 5,000 liters. Malolactic fermentation begins, as the wine rests for 30 months before being transferred, once again, to stainless steel tanks where it remains for 8 months.

After about 4 years from the date of harvest, the wine is ready to be put on the market. The attention to detail, the long maceration, the native yeasts are all evident in the final product.

    • Grapes: Nebbiolo 100%
    • ABV: 14.5%
    • Shelf Life: 15-20 years

Practicing Sustainable  Vineyard Management
In order to preserve the hills’ biodiversity, Cascina Chicco has acquired hazel trees and woods in the surroundings of the vineyards. The care and safeguarding of these green areas diminishes the universal carbon footprint of the winery and functions as an intact reserve for small animals, birds and beneficial insects. To avoid land consumption and disrespecting a landscape that is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the majority of the physical winery was built buried under the hill.  We use solar panels for all energy needs. The underground construction of the cellar allows a constant temperature for ageing wines, saving energy in temperature control technology. The entire structure is considered a Class A energy category.
