Castello di Cigognola DODICIDODICI Doc Oltrepo’ Pavese Barbera 2016
141 in stock
This 100% Barbera red is the Doc Oltrepo’ Pavese appellation from Castello di Cigognola Winery, located in the province of Pavia, in the region of Lombardy in northern Italy. The name DODICIDODICI translates as 1212 – the number 12 twice.
Unlike many of the other red grapes in the Piedmont, Barbera has a relatively long hang time on the vine, which imparts a lot of rich, dense flavours to the wine.
This is lovely wine and for those who love inky reds with plenty of kick. You cannot fail to enjoy it. It has all the quality and opulence you would expect when the vineyard is owned by the Morattis, one of the richest families in Italy and the wine maker is Riccardo Cotarella whom some see as the Robert Parker of Italian wine making.!
This is an excellent Barbera. Deep, dark purple in colour. Rich aromas of liquorice and dark fruit including blackberry and plum. Full bodied, great volume with smooth, intense taste. Soft, round tannins, well balanced, bracing acidity and a long lingering finish.
As Barbera is known for its acidity, it pairs well with rich fatty foods and red meats.
