This is truly a fine barrel aged red wine made with 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes.
A youthful cherry / purple colour from core to rim.
A perfumed nose with gentle hints of oak, ripe red and black plums and bramble fruit with hints of hot stones baking in the sunshine. The palate is richer with juicy plum and bramble fruit and an iron, stony, salty mineral note on the finish. The tannins are soft around the edges but with a grippy mineral centre – almost like soft, chewy plum flavoured toffee – and slightly peppery. Rich, ripe and savoury.
Refined and elegant on the palate. It does not seem like a typical Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, because it’s not; it is not too thick and invites one to take the next sip. Quite complete, well made and with capacity to develop further in the bottle. This is a new old-school Montepulciano d’Abruzzo , which is light years away from the dark, overripe stuff. Beautifully made, long and substantial with a beginning, middle and an end.
This is a wine that is always developing in the glass, and definitely requires decanting for a few hours before drinking to experience the full potency of this majestic fine wine.
This is definitely a wine to enjoy with food. Ideal with grilled steak and smokey bbq food.
Single Vineyard, harvested by hand. Here, the altitude of the winery located in Ofena and micro-climate soften the tannins and give the wine elegance, freshness and structure.
No doubt you will have heard of and seen the globally famous Italian pasta brand called ‘De Cecco’ which has been family owned since 1886. After becoming a sommelier, Adolfo De Cecco started a project to create a world-class Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine. .He pitched the concept to Thomas Duroux, winemaker and general manager of Chateau Palmer – a famous Margaux Third Growth vineyard in Bordeaux. Duroux was immediately intrigued by the project, so much so that he came to Abruzzo immediately. After touring the entire region, De Cecco and Duroux arrived in Ofena, in the province of Aquila, an area almost 500 metres above sea level. This, they decided, was the perfect location to focus on a wine that could be refined and elegant.
When they found the perfect vineyards, INALTO was born. where the micro-climate softens the tannins and gives the wine elegance, freshness and structure. In terms of body, excellent balance between softness and the freshness that remains the trademark of this fine wine. You immediately notice an excellent harmony. The red fruit is always predominant, but then the black pepper becomes more evident and opens the door to a long finish that gently pinches the tongue.
