Château Du Garde Cuvée de Garde AOP Côtes de Bordeaux 2012
52 in stock
A delicious nicely barrel aged 100% Merlot Bordeaux.
A striking beautiful deep garnet red colour. An expressive, spicy, toasted nose, vanilla and black fruits. A wine of great complexity. Round attack with a nice sweetness and notes of chocolate and fresh tobacco. The tannins are silky and the finish is fruity and persistent.
This hugely underrated area is actually comprised of five different appellations. The ‘Côtes de Bordeaux’ was created only 10-years ago, in 2009 with the purpose of grouping together, under one banner, some of the outer Bordeaux appellations that were less well known than the likes of the Médoc and St-Émilion. It is comprised of the appellations Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux and Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux. Even more recently, in 2016, the appellation of Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux joined the group. The Côtes de Bordeaux can throw up some gems at very affordable prices, which is axactly what Château Du Garde are offering here. It is the 4th largest AOC in France yet many people are still not aware of the region and the amazing value for money the wines can offer.
Enjoy with a nice piece of red meat, a grilled veal chop or a cold charcuterie and aged cheeses.

The Château du Garde today is the story of 5 generations of the same family that began in 1925 when Antonio Subra, originally of Spanish origin, bought the first plots of land.
Located under the appellation of Côtes de Bordeaux, the Château du Garde benefits from a terroir conducive to the production of great Bordeaux wines. The property now covers 39 hectares.
After four generations, the Château du Garde has unique know-how. Independent winegrower, involved in the environmental cause, the Château du Garde is part of a sustainable development approach and holds its High Environmental Value level 3 certification.
Today it is the great grandson, Jean-Benoît Subra who runs this fantastic, small, family owned single Vineyard in Bordeaux. He is on a mission to create the future stars of Bordeaux. Jean-Benoît Subra says “it is said that a good winemaker is always dissatisfied. We are constantly looking for excellence and originality, so my work keeps going from year to year, for your pleasure and also mine because, let us not hide it, a happy winemaker is a winemaker who makes you happy.”
